Dummy time

I think someone might know we are thinking of getting rid of the dummy (ies). Any tips would be gratefully received.

  1. we got rid of the dummy about one and a half months ago. it was tough, don't let me sugarcoat it! took her an hour to go to sleep the first night. we replaced the dummy with a little blanky owl i made her so she had something to suck on and do with her hands whilst she got used to it. some kids also don't mind a face washer. on the day you decide to do it, do it at night cause you know she'll sleep eventually (as opposed to day). and throw every dummy you have away so you aren't tempted! then put her to bed as normal and just be calm and confident. then we basically just did 2 minutes comforting her through cot bars shhing and patting, 2 minutes out of the room (only returning if she was crying). when settling, only stay until calm and quiet, you don't want the patting to become the new dummy! anyway - a few months down the track and we haven't looked back. its been AMAZING. email me if you want anymore info on how we did it!

  2. I'm still trying to get Bay to take a dummy!
She seems to like sucking her thumb so I'm a bit worried about that.. at least you can throw a dummy away!

  3. yes, lottie pearl has just started to like her a thumb a little which makes me scared! but i think it has more to do with her teething (she has had 6 new teeth arrive in less than 2 weeks!). she only seems to do it when she's super tired in the evening or as she's putting herself to sleep. what can one do? we keep her hands busy and just pull her thumb out when we see her doing it. after that, the rest is up to her i guess!

  4. Thanks Ladies. Sienna has started sleeping from 7am until 3.30am and then until 7.15am for the last four nights so we'll see how we go. She LOVES her dummy and it really soothes her so it is here to stay at the moment. We don't use it during the day and have been working on her being able to put it in herself which she can now do. We'll see how we go. I'm a bit worried about thumb/ finger sucking as both my siblings had problems with their palates due to sucking (I didn't suck a dummy or my thumb) so I like the idea of being able to get rid of the dummy later on rather than having problems with thumb sucking. Thanks again ladies!!
